MEAT MARKET

Meat Market series began as an empowering series of wearable art objects taking the derogatory notion of female flesh existing to be consumed (visually, sexually, and sometimes even literally), and transforming it into something beautiful, powerful and enigmatic. The scope of the work has expanded to include performance: readings, live painting and weaving, as well as burlesque—a performance medium imminently suited to unpacking ideas of commodification and objectification of the female body while more overtly exploring the implied sexualization therein. Dancing on a narrow line of revulsion and arousal, heavy subject matter is packaged with equal parts humor and horror—making it palatable for general consumption.
